Wonders of the Ancient World, we will visit the Pyramid of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus. We will then proceed to visit the Great Sphinx, the head of a pharaoh with a lion's body, dated from the time of Chephren. We will also visit the Valley Temple which belongs to the Pyramids of Chephren. This temple served two functions: First, it was used for the purification of the mummy of the king before its burial. Second, it was used for making the Mummification process of the king. Afterward, we will drive to The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), one of the largest and most significant archaeological museums in the world, located just a few kilometers from the Giza Pyramids. After breakfast we will drive three (3) hours north of Cairo to visit Alexandria. Upon arrival, we will visit the Catacombs which are the largest Roman Cemetery consisting of three levels cut in the rock. The tombs at Kom Al-Shuqafa are thought to have originally belonged to a single wealthy Roman family that began using it for burials around the 2nd century AD; however, the complex was significantly expanded, and it was used though the 4th century AD. It contains a large number of graves, including a mass grave of animal and human remains that are attributed to a mass execution carried out in Alexandria by the Roman Emperor Caracalla in 215 AD.

In the afternoon, we will visit a Roman Theatre located in the central region of Alexandria city at Kom el-Dikka. This Theatre is one of the symbols of Alexandria city. Dating back from the 2nd century A.D., usually built in semi-circular shape, the Amphitheatre was an open-air theatre with no curtains on the stage. The Roman Theatre of Egypt consists of numerous galleries. These galleries contain rooms for more spectators along with arrangements of 700-800 marble seats around the stage. The Roman Theatre had a large auditorium measuring 42m in diameter. The outer face of the theatre's building was probably adorned with columns located in several stories. We will then drive to visit the architecturally stunning Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a recently constructed, modern interpretation of its ancient predecessor. This structure is poised to become as famous an architectural monument as Sydney’s famed Opera House. Here, in addition to the innovative and imaginative building, we will discover extraordinary documents and artifacts. Overnight in Alexandria.

Natrun, the actual birthplace for Christian monasticism. Basically, there were about 50 monasteries; only three (3) survived in modern times. We will begin with Deir al-Baramus, which is the oldest of the three (3) surviving monasteries, and in many ways the most isolated. We will then proceed to Deir Anba Bishoi, whose body is still in the monastery. We will end with a visit to Deir El-Suryani, which is the smallest and most compact of the three (3) monasteries. Afterward we will drive back to Cairo for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast we will be picked up by our Egyptologist and begin our day by visiting The Church of the Virgin Mary, built into the walls of the Water Gate of the Roman fortress. It is possibly the oldest Christian church in Egypt, dating to around the 4th Century. We will then visit the Church of St. Sergius, (AbuSerga), which legend has it is built atop one of the sites where the Holy Family rested on their flight from Herod. Continuing this path brings us first to the Ben Ezra Synagogue, which is Egypt's oldest and dates to the 9th Century. We will then procced to The Coptic Museum, which houses the largest collection of Coptic artifacts in the world and was inaugurated in 1910. The museum was established through the efforts of Marcus Simaika Pasha, a prominent Coptic figure who was vested in the preservation of Coptic heritage. Simaika Pasha bought and collected Coptic antiquities and various architectural elements from older churches that were undergoing renovation and used them to build the museum and establish its collection.

In the afternoon, we will visit The Egyptian Museum, which features artifacts from the Pharaonic period. The museum displays a rare collection of 5000 years of art which is considered the largest and most precious collection of Egyptian art in the world. Over 250,000 artifacts are presented, including an exhibit dedicated to Tutankhamen collection of treasure, gold and jewelry, which was enclosed in his tomb for over 3,500 years before it was discovered in the 1920s when his tomb was discovered. east bank of Luxor, and one of the most important places of worship during the New Kingdom. We will then proceed to the east bank to Visit the Temple of Luxor, one the most beautiful temples in Egypt. It was known in the New Kingdom period as Ipt-Rsyt, which means the southern shrine, and it was the northern house of Amon Ra. The temple runs close and parallel to the river Nile from north to south. It was built by kings of the 12th dynasty and Amenhotep III was the architect and overseer of the works of construction. At this time the Temple was only 190 m in length and 55 m in width. We will then drive to check-in on the Nile Cruise Ship in time for lunch. Dinner and overnight on ship.

After breakfast, we will drive to the West Bank. Upon arrival we will visit The Valley of the Kings, located on the west bank of the Nile River near Luxor. It is the most famous site for its unique collections of tombs and breathtaking ancient ruins. This location makes it one of the hottest spots for exploring ancient Egyptian history. Archaeologists

have been sweeping the area of the Valley of the Kings for centuries, and until now, it continues to surprise them. The Valley of the Kings is where the modern myth of Egypt began with Howard Carter’s discovery in 1922 of Tutankhamun’s tomb, complete with all of the treasures with which he had been buried. The fame of that discovery ushered in a new era of Egyptian tourism as the treasures of Tutankhamun toured the world and generated new, widespread interest in the history of Ancient Egypt. Afterward we will drive to Hatshepsut Temple. Queen Hatshepsut was one of the greatest queens and the second who ruled ancient Egypt. Hatshepsut was the fifth pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty of ancient Egypt. She was the second confirmed female pharaoh who ruled Egypt. The first was Sobekneferu. Hatshepsut took over the rule of Egypt in 1478 BC. Next, we proceed to Deir El- Medina. This site takes its name from a Ptolemaic temple, which was later converted to a Coptic monastery – the Monastery of the Town – but the real attraction is the unique workmen's village, Many of the skilled workers and artists who created tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens lived, and were buried here. Archaeologists have uncovered more than 70 houses in this village and many tombs. Afterward we will drive back to the cruise ship.

After breakfast we disembark from the cruise ship. We have a long ride to Abu Simbel (3 hours) to visit The Great Temple of Abu Simbel, in Nubia near Egypt’s southern border, is among the most awe-inspiring monuments of Egypt. It was cut into living rock by King Ramesses II (the Great) of the Nineteenth Dynasty, around 1264 BC. The temple is well-known for the four imposing seated colossal statues that dominate its façade. One of these collapsed due to an ancient earthquake, and its fragments can still be seen on the ground.
Colossal standing statues of the king line the main hall leading to the sanctuary where four deities sit: Amun Ra, Ra Horakhty, Ptah, and a deified version of Ramesses II. The temple was built with such precision that on two days a year, the 22nd of February and 22nd of October (today), the sun’s rays enter the temple, cross the main hall, and illuminate the innermost statues.

Another rock-cut temple to the north, known as the Small Temple, is dedicated to the goddess Hathor and Ramesses II’s Great Royal Wife, Queen Nefertari. On the façade of the Small Temple, her colossi are the same size as those of her husband, a very rare example of such display.
The two temples were moved from their original location in 1968 after the Aswan High Dam was built, as it threatened to submerge them. The relocation was completed thanks to an international effort led by UNESCO, and the temple was admitted into its list of World Heritage Sites in 1979. After the visit we will drive to Aswan airport for our flight back to Cairo.
